Al-Mumtahana

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ عَدُوِّى وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْحَقِّ يُخْرِجُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۙ أَن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ رَبِّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ خَرَجْتُمْ جِهَٰدًۭا فِى سَبِيلِى وَٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِى ۚ تُسِرُّونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنَا۠ أَعْلَمُ بِمَآ أَخْفَيْتُمْ وَمَآ أَعْلَنتُمْ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْهُ مِنكُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ

Yaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa tattakhizoo 'aduwwee wa 'aduwaakum awliyaaa'a tulqoona ilaihim bilmawaddati wa qad kafaroo bima jaaa'akum minal haqq, yukhrijoonar Rasoola wa iyyaakum an tu'minoo billaahi rabbikum in kuntum kharajtum jihaadan fee sabeelee wabtighaaa'a mardaatee; tusirroona ilaihim bilma waddati wa ana a'alamu bimaaa akhfaitum wa maaa a'lantum; wa many yaf'alhu minkum faqad dalla sawaaa'as sabeel

O ye who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for allies. Do ye give them friendship when they disbelieve in that truth which hath come unto you, driving out the messenger and you because ye believe in Allah, your Lord? If ye have come forth to strive in My way and seeking My good pleasure, (show them not friendship). Do ye show friendship unto them in secret, when I am Best Aware of what ye hide and what ye proclaim? And whosoever doeth it among you, he verily hath strayed from the right way.

[ا] اے ایمان والو نہ پکڑو میرےاور اپنے دشمنوں کو دوست تم اُنکو پیغام بھیجتےہو دوستی سے [۲] اور وہ منکر ہوئے ہیں اُس سے جو تمہارے پاس آیا سچا دین [۳] نکالتے ہیں رسول کو اور تم کو اس بات پر کہ تم مانتے ہو اللہ کو جو رب ہے تمہارا [۴] اگر تم نکلے ہو لڑنے کو میری راہ میں اور طلب کرنے کو میری رضامندی [۵] تم اُنکو چھپا کر بھیجتے ہو دوستی کے پیغام اور مجھ کو خوب معلوم ہے جو چھپایا تم نے اور جو ظاہر کیا تم نے [۶] اور جو کوئی تم میں یہ کام کرے تو وہ بھول گیا سیدھی راہ [۷]

إِن يَثْقَفُوكُمْ يَكُونُوا۟ لَكُمْ أَعْدَآءًۭ وَيَبْسُطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلسُّوٓءِ وَوَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ

Iny yasqafookum yakoonoo lakum a'daaa'anw wa yabsutooo ilaikum aydiyahum wa alsinatahum bissooo'i wa waddoo law takfuroon

If they have the upper hand of you, they will be your foes, and will stretch out their hands and their tongues toward you with evil (intent), and they long for you to disbelieve.

اگر تم اُنکے ہاتھ آ جاؤ ہو جائیں تمہارے دشمن اور چلائیں تم پر اپنے ہاتھ اور اپنی زبانیں برائی کے ساتھ اور چاہیں کہ کسی طرح تم بھی منکر ہو جاؤ [۸]

لَن تَنفَعَكُمْ أَرْحَامُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُمْ ۚ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَكُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌۭ

Lan tanfa'akum arhaamukum wa laaa awlaadukum; yawmal qiyaamati yafsilu bainakum; wallaahu bimaa ta'maloon baseer

Your ties of kindred and your children will avail you naught upon the Day of Resurrection. He will part you. Allah is Seer of what ye do.

ہرگز کام نہ آئیں گے تمہارے کنبے والے اور نہ تمہاری اولاد قیامت کے دن وہ فیصلہ کرے گا تم میں اور اللہ جو تم کرتے ہو دیکھتا ہے [۹]

قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍۢ ۖ رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Qad kaanat lakum uswatun basanatun feee Ibraaheema wallazeena ma'ahoo iz qaaloo liqawmihim innaa bura'aaa'u minkum wa mimmaa ta'budoona min doonil laahi kafarnaa bikum wa badaa bainanaa wa bainakumul 'adaawatu wal baghdaaa'u abadan hattaa tu'minoo billaahi wahdahooo illaa qawla Ibraheema li abeehi la astaghfiranna laka wa maaa amliku laka minal laahi min shai; rabbanaa 'alaika tawakkalnaa wa ilaika anabnaa wa ilaikal maseer

There is a goodly pattern for you in Abraham and those with him, when they told their folk: Lo! we are guiltless of you and all that ye worship beside Allah. We have done with you. And there hath arisen between us and you hostility and hate for ever until ye believe in Allah only - save that which Abraham promised his father (when he said): I will ask forgiveness for thee, though I own nothing for thee from Allah - Our Lord! In Thee we put our trust, and unto Thee we turn repentant, and unto Thee is the journeying.

تم کو چال چلنی چاہئیے اچھی ابراہیم کی اور جو اُسکے ساتھ تھے جب انہوں نے کہا اپنی قوم کو ہم الگ ہیں تم سے اور اُن سے کہ جنکو تم پوجتے ہو اللہ کے سوائے [۱۰] ہم منکر ہوئے تم سے [۱۱] اور کھل پڑی ہم میں اور تم میں دشمنی اور بیر ہمیشہ کو یہاں تک کہ تم یقین لاؤ اللہ اکیلے پر [۱۲] مگر ایک کہنا ابراہیم کا اپنے باپ کو کہ میں مانگوں گا معافی تیرے لئے اور مالک نہیں میں تیرے نفع کا اللہ کے ہاتھ سے کسی چیز کا [۱۳] اے رب ہمارے ہم نے تجھ پر بھروسہ کیا اور تیری طرف رجوع ہوئے اور تیری طرف ہے سب کو پھر آنا [۱۴]

رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا رَبَّنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Rabbana laa taj'alnaa fitnatal lillazeena kafaroo waghfir lanaa rabbanaa innaka antal azeezul hakeem

Our Lord! Make us not a prey for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord! Lo! Thou, only Thou, are the Mighty, the Wise.

اے رب ہمارے مت جانچ ہم پر کافروں کو [۱۵] اور ہم کو معاف کر اے رب ہمارے [۱۶] تو ہی ہے زبردست حکمت والا [۱۷]

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْءَاخِرَ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ

Laqad kaana lakum feehim uswatunhasanatul liman kaana yarjul laaha wal yawmal aakhir; wa many yatawalla fa innal laaha huwal ghaniyyul hameed

Verily ye have in them a goodly pattern for everyone who looketh to Allah and the Last Day. And whosoever may turn away, lo! still Allah, He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.

البتہ تم کو بھلی چال چلنی چاہئے اُنکی جو کوئی امید رکھتا ہو اللہ کی اور پچھلے دن کی اور جو کوئی منہ پھیرے تو اللہ وہی ہے بے پروا سب تعریفوں والا [۱۸]

۞ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَجْعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ عَادَيْتُم مِّنْهُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ قَدِيرٌۭ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ

Asal laahu any yaj'ala bainakum wa bainal lazeena 'aadaitum minhum mawaddah; wallahu qadeer; wallahu ghafoorur raheem

It may be that Allah will ordain love between you and those of them with whom ye are at enmity. Allah is Mighty, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

امید ہے کہ کر دے اللہ تم میں اور جو دشمن ہیں تمہارے اُن میں دوستی اور اللہ سب کچھ کر سکتا ہے اور اللہ بخشنے والا مہربان ہے [۱۹]

لَّا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُقْسِطِينَ

Laa yanhaakumul laahu 'anil lazeena lam yuqaatilookum fid deeni wa lam yukhrijookum min diyaarikum an tabarroohum wa tuqsitooo ilaihim; innal laaha yuhibbul muqsiteen

Allah forbiddeth you not those who warred not against you on account of religion and drove you not out from your homes, that ye should show them kindness and deal justly with them. Lo! Allah loveth the just dealers.

اللہ تم کو منع نہیں کرتا اُن لوگوں سے جو لڑے نہیں تم سے دین پر اور نکالا نہیں تم کو تمہارےگھروں سے کہ اُن سے کرو بھلائی اور انصاف کا سلوک بیشک اللہ چاہتا ہے انصاف والوں کو [۲۰]

إِنَّمَا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ قَٰتَلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَأَخْرَجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ وَظَٰهَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ إِخْرَاجِكُمْ أَن تَوَلَّوْهُمْ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُمْ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

Innamaa yanhaakumul laahu 'anil lazeena qaatalookum fid deeni wa akhrajookum min diyaarikum wa zaaharoo 'alaa ikhraajikum an tawallawhum; wa many yatawallahum faulaaa'ika humuz zaalimoon

Allah forbiddeth you only those who warred against you on account of religion and have driven you out from your homes and helped to drive you out, that ye make friends of them. Whosoever maketh friends of them - (All) such are wrong-doers.

اللہ تو منع کرتا ہے تم کو اُن سے جو لڑے تم سے دین پر اور نکالا تم کو تمہارے گھروں سے اور شریک ہوئے تمہارے نکالنے میں کہ اُن سے کرو دوستی اور جو کوئی ان سے دوستی کرے سو وہ لوگ وہی ہیں گنہگار [۲۱]

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ مُهَٰجِرَٰتٍۢ فَٱمْتَحِنُوهُنَّ ۖ ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَٰنِهِنَّ ۖ فَإِنْ عَلِمْتُمُوهُنَّ مُؤْمِنَٰتٍۢ فَلَا تَرْجِعُوهُنَّ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ ۖ لَا هُنَّ حِلٌّۭ لَّهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ ۖ وَءَاتُوهُم مَّآ أَنفَقُوا۟ ۚ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ إِذَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ ۚ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوا۟ بِعِصَمِ ٱلْكَوَافِرِ وَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقْتُمْ وَلْيَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ حُكْمُ ٱللَّهِ ۖ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ

Yaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo izaa jaaa'akumul mu'minaatu muhaajiraatin famtah inoohunna Allaahu a'lamu bieemaanihinna fa in 'alimtumoohunna mu'minaatin falaa tarji'oohunna ilal kuffaar; laa hunna hillul lahum wa laa hum uahilloona lahunna wa aatoohum maa anfaqoo wa laa junaaha 'alaikum an tankihoohunna izaaa aataitumoohunna ujoorahunn; wa laa tumsikoo bi 'isamil kawaafiri was'aloo maaa anfaqtum walyas'aloo maaa anfaqoo zaalikum hukmul laahi yahkumu bainakum wallaahu 'aleemun hakeem

O ye who believe! When believing women come unto you as fugitives, examine them. Allah is Best Aware of their faith. Then, if ye know them for true believers, send them not back unto the disbelievers. They are not lawful for them (the disbelievers), nor are they (the disbelievers) lawful for them. And give them (the disbelievers) that which they have spent (upon them). And it is no sin for you to marry such women when ye have given them their dues. And hold not to the ties of disbelieving women; and ask for (the return of) that which ye have spent; and let them (the disbelievers) ask for that which they have spent. That is the judgment of Allah. He judgeth between you. Allah is Knower, Wise.

اے ایمان والو جب آئیں تمہارے پاس ایمان والی عورتیں وطن چھوڑ کر تو ان کو جانچ لو اللہ خوب جانتا ہے انکے ایمان کو [۲۲] پھر اگر جانو کہ وہ ایمان پر ہیں تو مت پھیرو اُنکو کافروں کی طرف نہ یہ عورتیں حلال ہیں اُن کافروں کو اور نہ وہ کافر حلال ہیں ان عورتوں کو اور دیدو اُن کافروں کو جو ان کا خرچ ہوا ہو اور گناہ نہیں تم کو کہ نکاح کر لو اُن عورتوں سے جب اُنکو دو انُکے مہر [۲۳] اور نہ رکھو اپنے قبضہ میں ناموس کافر عورتوں کے اور تم مانگ لو جو تم نے خرچ کیا اور وہ کافر مانگ لیں جو انہوں نے خرچ کیا یہ اللہ کا فیصلہ ہے تم میں فیصلہ کرتا ہے اور اللہ سب کچھ جاننے والا حکمت والا ہے [۲۴]

وَإِن فَاتَكُمْ شَىْءٌۭ مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ فَعَاقَبْتُمْ فَـَٔاتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ذَهَبَتْ أَزْوَٰجُهُم مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنتُم بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنُونَ

Wa in faatakum shai'um min azwaajikum ilal kuffaari fa'aaqabtum fa aatul lazeena zahabat azwaajuhum misla maaa anfaqoo; wattaqul laahal lazeee antum bihee mu'minoon

And if any of your wives have gone from you unto the disbelievers and afterward ye have your turn (of triumph), then give unto those whose wives have gone the like of that which they have spent, and keep your duty to Allah in Whom ye are believers.

اور اگر جاتی رہیں تمہارے ہاتھ سے کچھ عورتیں کافروں کی طرف پھر تم ہاتھ مارو تو دیدو اُنکو جن کی عورتیں جاتی رہی ہیں جتنا انہوں نے خرچ کیا تھا اور ڈرتے رہو اللہ سے جس پر تم کو یقین ہے [۲۵]

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن لَّا يُشْرِكْنَ بِٱللَّهِ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا يَزْنِينَ وَلَا يَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَٰنٍۢ يَفْتَرِينَهُۥ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِنَّ وَأَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِى مَعْرُوفٍۢ ۙ فَبَايِعْهُنَّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ

Yaaa ayyuhan nabbiyyu izaa jaaa'akal mu'minaau yubaai naka 'alaaa allaa yushrikna billaahi shai 'anw wa laa yasriqna wa laa yazneena wa laa yaqtulna awlaadahunna wa laa yaateena bibuhtaaniny yaftaree nahoo baina aydeehinna wa arjulihinna wa laa ya'seenaka fee ma'roofin fabaayi'hunna wastaghfir lahunnal laaha innnal laaha ghafoorur raheem

O Prophet! If believing women come unto thee, taking oath of allegiance unto thee that they will ascribe no thing as partner unto Allah, and will neither steal nor commit adultery nor kill their children, nor produce any lie that they have devised between their hands and feet, nor disobey thee in what is right, then accept their allegiance and ask Allah to forgive them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

اے نبی جب آئیں تیرے پاس مسلمان عورتیں بیعت کرنے کو اس بات پر کہ شریک نہ ٹھہرائیں اللہ کا کسی کو اور چوری نہ کریں اور بدکاری نہ کریں اور اپنی اولاد کو نہ مار ڈالیں [۲۶] اور طوفان نہ لائیں باندھ کر اپنے ہاتھوں اور پاؤں میں [۲۷] اور تیری نافرمانی نہ کریں کسی بھلے کام میں تو اُنکو بیعت کر لے [۲۸] اور معافی مانگ اُنکے واسطے اللہ سے بیشک اللہ بخشنے والا مہربان ہے [۲۹]

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ قَوْمًا غَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ يَئِسُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ كَمَا يَئِسَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْقُبُورِ

Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena amanoo laa tatawallaw qawman ghadibal laahu 'alaihim qad ya'isoo minal aakhirati kamaa ya'isal kuffaaru min as haabil quboor

O ye who believe! Be not friendly with a folk with whom Allah is wroth, (a folk) who have despaired of the Hereafter as the disbelievers despair of those who are in the graves.

اے ایمان والو مت دوستی کرو اُن لوگوں سے کہ غصہ ہوا ہے اللہ اُن پر [۳۰] وہ آس توڑ چکے ہیں پچھلے گھر سے جیسے آس توڑی منکروں نے قبر والوں سے [۳۱]
